This old orchard is one of three orchards in the area. They have wagon tours where you can pick your own apples. The golden crisp is the best. There is a gift shop where locals shop for apple cider, jams and butters. Locals were buying gallons of cider. We got the apple and pumpkin butters. You must try the apple cider donuts. Go early because they will run out of them in the afternoon. Stop here on your way to Nebraska City.

Awesome little place. Plenty of jams, wines, pie, and cider. Prices are moderate but service was welcoming and warm. Great stop on a Sunday afternoon.

This is a yearly tradition for my mom and I! The orchard is beautiful and the apples are delicious. It is always very busy but totally worth the wait. I love that they sell their apple cider in portable bottles ready to drink on the way home! The apple cider donuts are amazing too! One of my favorite traditions!

We go every year, and it gets better and better. They've added a pumpkin patch ride, which the kids love! Can't wait for next year!!

Freshly baked apple pie. Well, yes, yes I will take one. The fragrant aroma was causing me to drool on the way home. That pie didn't stand a chance. Go there. Because its a family owned operation. And amazing.

This is a fruit stand gone wild! Get your apples/pear/peaches/ect. in season by the bag, bushel or box load. Grab a freshly made doughnut and a homemade pie for later. Wash it all down with some lovely fruit wines. The staff is friendly, even in the sweltering heat (yes we have no A/C) and the prices are reasonable.

Kimmel Orchard is a special place in the heart of some really great farms. Their facility is geared for locals & tourists alike, and the locally grown apples, cherries, and pumpkins make for some killer pies! Take the hay wagon ride out into the fields... A beautiful setting - love it.

Fun little spot! We will drive down again for the apple donuts and cider alone!!! Walk back to the kitchen and order a fresh piping hot donut! We also took the hint and grabbed a box that had the visible steam knowing they were fresh. When we got them home we placed them in the oven at 350 for about 6 minutes and they were once again crisp on the outside and oh-so-moist on the inside! WoNDeRFuL flavor!!! We should have bought more!

We visit several times a year but by far the best time to go is around Nebraska City AppleJack Festival in early September. There are so many fun things going on in town! At Kimmel we do the u-pick apples, hayrack rides and always pick up honeycrisp apples, caramel apples, cherry cider, apple donuts and a frozen bake-at-home apple pie.

You have to go during the fall and get some apple donuts. We have been doing it for years. Look for the boxes that have humidity in them, as they are fresh from the oven. Then wash them down with some fresh apple cider.

We came for the cherries. What we found was all the cherries were pitted and frozen. I had been hoping for fresh cherries to take home. I tried the cherry cider instead. It tasted like cherry juice, without a hint of any fermentation, characteristic of cider. As cherry juice, it was OK. Next I bought some wine to bring home to Texas instead. So far, I have sampled the Voignier, and it was a crisp white. It did disappoint me that they charge $5 for a wine tasting. Puleeeeez---I wish wineries would stop that practice. They would sell a lot more wine if they did. Most of the wines at Kimmel were $19.99 a bottle.

After extensive taste tests, we pinged Kimmel as one of our two favorite cider orchards of the many fantastic ones around Nebraska City. In recent years they've greatly expanded their other offerings as well (the owners recently discovered that their parents, the founders, had invested money in Berkshire Hathaway when it was a start-up, and then somehow forgotten about it). The apple donuts in particular are to die for, but they can sell out quickly on beautiful fall weekends, so stop by on the way *to* Nebraska City, not the way back.
